Keeping Your Lashes Flawless

You’ve just left the lash studio with a stunning set of lash extensions that enhance your natural beauty. If you left Siroki Lash Studio then you left with a set of those sought-after wispy lashes! Now, it’s time to ensure that your lashes stay flawless and long-lasting. Proper aftercare is essential for maintaining the health, longevity, and beauty of your lash extensions. In this comprehensive guide, we’ll walk you through the dos and don’ts of lash extension aftercare, providing you with valuable tips to keep your lashes looking flawless for weeks to come.

  1. Gentle Cleansing: Keeping your lash extensions clean is crucial for preventing build-up and maintaining their longevity. Use a gentle lash cleanser or foam cleanser specifically formulated for lash extensions. Avoid oil-based or waterproof makeup removers, as they can weaken the adhesive bond. Gently cleanse your lashes using a soft cleansing brush, moving in a downward or side-to-side motion along the lash line. Rinse and dry.
  2. Avoid Excessive Moisture: While it’s important to keep your lash extensions clean, excessive moisture can weaken the adhesive bond. Avoid hot showers, steam rooms, and saunas for the first 24 to 48 hours after your lash appointment. When washing your face, use a gentle touch around the eye area and pat your lashes dry with a clean paper towel, or use a cool blow dryer on a low setting. If you are committed to lashes you may want to purchase a handheld lash fan. Do not let the lashes stay wet after washing the increased exposure can weaken the glue bonds. Avoid cotton when drying the lashes as it will get caught on the lash extensions and it can rip your lashes right out!
  3. Be Mindful of Sleeping Positions: During sleep, it’s crucial to protect your lash extensions from rubbing against the pillow. Try sleeping on your back or invest in a silk or satin pillowcase, as these materials create less friction. If you’re a side or stomach sleeper, consider using a specialized lash extension pillow or a contoured sleep mask to protect your lashes. We have seen an amazing difference in these sleepers’ retention with these tools!
  4. Avoid Oil-Based Products: Oil-based products can break down the adhesive bond and cause premature lash extension loss. Steer clear of oil-based cleansers, moisturizers, and makeup products around the eye area. Opt for water-based or oil-free alternatives instead. Be cautious when applying sunscreen, ensuring that it doesn’t come into direct contact with your lashes. Oil can build up and create an invisible layer on the lash line improperly caring for lashes and letting oil and makeup build up with cause infection.
  5. Refrain from Touching or Rubbing: Resist the temptation to touch, rub, or pull on your lash extensions. Constant rubbing or tugging can cause damage and premature shedding. Avoid excessive eye-rubbing and be mindful when removing eye makeup, using gentle, downward motions instead of rubbing vigorously. Picking lashes is often an unnoticed habit so be aware of this so you don’t create lash gapping. Picking can cause bent lash extensions, broken natural lashes, gaps (naked space between the lash line), lash loss, and damaged adhesion points (weaker glue).
  6. Schedule Regular Lash Refills: The natural lashes have a natural shedding cycle, and regular fills are necessary to maintain a full and luscious look. Book your lash refill appointments every 2-3 weeks to keep your lashes in perfect condition. Your lash artist will remove any grown-out lashes and replace them with fresh extensions, ensuring that your lashes always look their best. Removing grown-out lashes does take time and therefore lash appointments booked after 4 weeks even if you still have lashes will not be considered a fill-in. After 4 weeks you need to book a full set of lash extensions. Please remember if you can count them it is not a fill! 50% or more lashes lost is also not a fill. Make sure you book your appointments accordingly to ensure you and your artist have enough time to ensure you leave feeling fabulous.
  7. Salty Ocean or seawater: Salt water may dry out your lashes and make the glue more brittle. The salt molecules also expand once dry and can end up lifting lashes away from the adhered lash extensions. We recommend you clean your lashes after swimming in the sea or pool. If you clean them after a visit to the water you should be fine. If you leave it you may experience worse retention, burning, bacteria growth, and infection.
  8. Wait 24 hours to wash/wet your lashes because lash glue cures 90% after the appointment but the other 10% may take up to 24 hours. This way we can ensure that the lash set is not disturbed and you get the best retention possible.
  9. Do not curl your lashes or apply mascara after the lash extensions have been applied. Lash curlers can and will rip out your natural lashes from the root with lash extensions due to the added weight. If you do something like this it is extremely painful and your lash artist can not help you when you have nothing left. Mascara will create retention issues and cause eye infections. If you find you want a more dramatic look reach out to your lash artist and they will accommodate your desires without ruining your investment.

With this proper aftercare, you can extend the life of your lash extensions and enjoy flawless, eye-catching lashes for weeks. Incorporate these tips into your daily routine to maintain the health, longevity, and beauty of your lash extensions. Remember, a little extra care goes a long way when it comes to keeping your lashes looking flawless. By following these simple aftercare guidelines, you’ll be able to flaunt your gorgeous lash extensions with confidence, knowing that you’re going to look great at all times!
