How to become a lash artist

Lash Training: Application Technique and Aftercare Tips

Mastering the basics of lash extension application is essential for achieving beautiful, long-lasting results. In this blog, provide you with the step-by-step process Lash Training: Application Techniques and Aftercare Tips. Whether you’re a seasoned lash artist or just starting out, understanding these fundamental techniques and aftercare instructions will help you achieve the best outcomes for your clients.

Preparing for Lash Extension Application: Lash Training

Steps to Ensure the Client’s Natural Lashes are Ready for Extensions

  1. Consultation: Firstly, begin with a thorough consultation to understand the client’s needs, preferences, and any potential allergies or sensitivities.
  2. Cleansing: Clean the natural lashes using a gentle, oil-free, pH-balanced cleanser to remove any makeup, oils, or debris. This ensures a clean surface for the extensions to adhere to.
  3. Isolation: Use isolation tweezers to isolate the natural lashes. This prevents multiple natural lashes from sticking together, which can cause discomfort and damage.
  4. Preparation of Tools and Workspace: Ensure all tools are sanitized, and the workspace is clean and well-lit. Have all necessary tools within reach, including tweezers, adhesive, lash extensions, eye pads, lash shampoo, towels, and a fan.

Basic Application Techniques

Overview of How Lash Extensions are Applied

  1. Selection of Lashes: Choose the appropriate length, thickness, and curl of the lash extensions based on the client’s natural lashes and desired look.
  2. Isolation Technique: Use two tweezers—one to isolate the natural lash and the other to pick up the extension.
  3. Application:
    • Adhesive Application: Dip the base of the lash extension into a small amount of adhesive. Avoid using too much glue, as it can cause clumping and irritation.
    • Placement: Place the extension on the natural lash, about 1-2mm away from the eyelid to avoid contact with the skin.
  4. Bonding: Hold the extension in place for a few seconds to allow the adhesive to bond. Repeat the process for each lash, ensuring proper spacing and avoiding contact with neighboring lashes. Make sure the room has the correct humidity level for your adhesive throughout the service.
  5. Final Check: Once all extensions are applied, carefully inspect for any lashes that may be stuck together and separate them using tweezers.

Aftercare Instructions: Lash Training

Essential Tips to give Clients to Maintain Their Lash Extensions

  1. Avoid Water and Steam: First, Advise clients to avoid water, steam, and excessive humidity for the first 24-48 hours after application to allow the adhesive to fully cure.
  2. Gentle Cleaning: Encourage clients to clean their lashes daily with a lash cleanser and use a gentle, oil-free, pH-balanced makeup remover, if they must. This helps to remove oils and debris that can weaken the adhesive bond. Recommend a makeup removing towel to ensure they do not use products that will diminish retention.
  3. Avoid Oil-Based Products: Oil-based products can break down the adhesive, leading to premature lash loss. Clients should avoid using oil-based makeup removers, moisturizers, and serums near their lashes.
  4. No Rubbing or Pulling: Remind clients to avoid rubbing, pulling, or picking at their lash extensions. Unfortunately, this can cause damage to both the extensions and their natural lashes.
  5. Regular Maintenance: To conclude the appointment, recommend regular touch-up appointments every 2-3 weeks to maintain the fullness and appearance of their lash extensions.
