Lash Extension Retention: The Secret to Long-Lasting, Flawless Lashes

Lash Fill

Lash extensions are honestly an investment in confidence, and the key to keeping them looking fresh is understanding your natural lash cycle and staying on top of your lash extension fill-ins. Maintenance goes a long way in ensuring your lashes stay full and fabulous without gaps or uneven shedding.

Why Do Lash Extensions Shed?

Lash Phases

Your natural lashes follow a continuous cycle of growth and shedding, which includes three phases:

  • Anagen Phase (Growth): Baby lashes are still growing in, making them too delicate for lash extensions.
  • Catagen Phase (Transition): The sweet spot! These lashes are at their strongest and hold extensions best.
  • Telogen Phase (Shedding): These lashes are on their way out, which means any extensions attached to them will shed too but this is the longest phase of the lash cycle.

Since every lash is in a different stage of this cycle, losing 2-5 natural lashes per day is completely normal. That’s why regular lash extension fill-ins are a must to maintain a seamless, voluminous look. Each eye has about 150 lashes!

How Often Should You Book Lash Extension Fill-Ins?

For flawless retention, schedule your fill-ins every 2-3 weeks. Skipping appointments can lead to gaps and sparse lashes, meaning you might need a full new set instead of a simple refresh. Lashes will continue to grow even if the set looks good so for the best possible lash health keep up with your fill in appointments so that your lash artist can remove any lashes that are grown out but hanging on.

Retention Tips to Keep Your Lashes Looking THE BEST

  • Avoid water and steam for 24 hours after your appointment.
  • Avoid glycol check your skincare products.
  • Cleanse your lashes daily with an oil-free lash neutral pH cleanser to prevent buildup and keep them fresh.
  • Keep your hands off! Rubbing or pulling can lead to premature shedding and damage.
  • Sleep on your back to minimize friction and keep your extensions in place longer.
  • Pre-book your fill-ins to ensure you never go too long without a touch-up.
